We left the flat at about 0930 and went to the local Post Office to mail some postcards. We bought some more too.

We walked through Inverleith Park to the Royal Botanical Gardens, where we toured the grounds and the extensive greenhouses. I've kind of decided I'm just not much of a greenhouse person.

We sat outside Inverleith House in the Gardens, enjoying the unphotographable view of the Royal Mile. "Unphotographable" because there are several trees and the sun was behind it. Pretty amazing view though.

There were a lot of pale skinned Scottish children there, with their pale (usually solo) parents.

We located the Water of Leith and tried to find a path down to it. Instead we found "Loon Fung," a Cantonese restaurant highly recommended by both our guide book and Frank. We had "lunch specials" there - and that was still a bit better than what you get for dinner in Milledgeville.

Entering the New Town from Dean's Bridge. More pictures here.

We found the path along the Water of Leith and followed it to Dean's Bridge - a rather nice Victorian piece of work. The walk was very pretty, and we had a beautiful day all day, sunny, mostly cloudless, around 50 F. As we wandered into the New Town, we were pretty tired. I suggested we stop in the Scruffy Murphey's there (isn't that a chain in America?) to rest and try another whisky. I wanted 18 year old Glenmorangie. They only had the 10 year old, so we tried "Talisker," another peaty single malt. It was good - smooth and with a milder aftertaste than the Islay's. Catherine and I both sampled the Laphroaig again in the evening, and it's seeming rather less smooth by comparison to any of the others. But the aftertaste ... wow. Don't get me wrong about the first part either - it's good. The others are even better.

We wandered through the New Town, mostly shopping. Catherine wanted a local wool sweater. We didn't find one, and we got really tired. Eventually we called Frank to get bus instructions and made our way back to the flat. God we were tired. Evelyn and Frank left around 1900 to head for their "ante-natal" class. We eventually picked up some food from the grocery store (including more Dolcelatte) and ate it here.
